Walk into any grocery store theses days and into the baby foods aisle and there are now so many different baby food brands it can be hard to know where to start when choosing between them. Do you go with the brand you ate when you were a baby? Or try one of the new names, maybe an organic?
And whatever the name on the label which of these baby food brands are actually going to provide great nutrition for your growing child without tasting so bad that no self respecting Baby – whether they are only six months old or not – would ever eat it (Hint if your child rejects a certain flavor of baby food again and again, taste it yourself, there are some that are just not that nice) Here, to give you a head start at the supermarket is a little about what some of the larger baby food brands have to offer today:
Baby Food Brands – Gerber – Gerber baby food is probably the most recognized brand of baby food in the US. But even they these days have made changes to their product line that can be confusing. Nevertheless the range of offerings is still extensive. Gerber still make the basic cereals, as cereal is where every baby’s solid food adventure begins, but they do now offer an organic oatmeal alongside their tried and tested for decades oatmeal formula. Gerber have also begun adding bananas and mixed fruit ti their rice cereal offerings as well, but those are best left until it actually time to begin introducing fruits in general.
The pureed Gerber baby foods offerings have been expanded as well. The Step 1, 2 and 3 foods you may have eaten as a child are still around, but they have been joined by “Nature Select” and “Organic Smartfood” offerings as well. Whether there is a huge difference in the ingredients contained in all of these offerings is debatable and the best advice may be to give these different foods a try and then simply stick with what baby ends up liking best.
Baby Food Brands – Beech-Nut – Beech Nut is another baby food brand that has been around for decades now and is still in fact a family owned company, despite its global standing. The Beech-Nut range has actually not changed that much – its still goes through the basic Steps 1,2 and 3 and many of the same flavors as you Mom and Dad used to feed you. Sorry, but we have to say that Stage 2 apples and cherries still tastes good to us!
Baby Food Brands – Earth’s Best – Earth’s Best are best known of the organic baby food brands and were one of the first to hit the mainstream grocery stores. All of the ingredients are USDA certified and all of the baby foods are kosher. The range of tastes and textures is a little more sophisticated in the Earths Best Line, especially once Baby is old enough for Stage 3 foods. Tender Chicken and Stars and Vegetable Pilaf were always very popular choices in our house.
